Hydrate your skin
Winter can really do a number on your skin…and not a good number! The air is dry inside and outside, humidity is lacking, and the cold air whips across your face causing wind burn and severely dry skin. So what can you do to protect your uber sensitive skin during these cold months? Here are some tips on how to add moisture back into your skin:
Drinking More Water is Important!
Drink plenty of water. At least 8-10 glasses a day is needed for your dying of thirst skin!
Gently exfoliate your skin at least 3 times a week. Doing so will rid your face of layers of dry skin that build up and can cause you more acne and added uncomfortable-ness.
Cleanse Every Morning and Night
Use a GENTLE cleanser morning and night in the winter. Using a cleanser that is too harsh or rough can irritate your dry, dehydrated skin further.
Visit a Sauna
If you belong to a gym, visit the sauna daily if you can! The steam from the sauna will help moisturize your skin from head to toe. If you don’t belong to a gym, run hot water in your sink and put a towel over your head and keep your head a few inches from the hot water. The steam will rise, hydrating your face. You can also run the hot water in the shower and steam will fill the bathroom, giving you the same effect as a sauna.
Keep The Air Moist With a Humidifier
Put a humidifier in your room to add moisture to the air while you sleep. The heat in your house tends to make the house dryer all winter long, drying out your skin. The humidifier can be cool or warm steam, completely personal preference.
Use a decreased percentage of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid cream on your skin in the winter. A higher percentage can irritate and dry your skin out to a very painful and uncomfortable level.
Re-Hydrate When Necessary
Keep a small face and hand moisturizer with you during the day to re-hydrate if necessary.
Avoid caffeine since caffeine can make you more dehydrated.
