The Top Soundproofing Myth Investigated – Acoustic Paint For Walls

There are a lot of different opinions on certain methods of soundproofing. Everyone is completely sure that some techniques work like a charm. However, a lot of talk has been going around about others. People are not ready to believe everything in an instant, especially when there is a reason for something to appear unbelievable.

Find some myths here:

Since I have recently been experiencing some noise issues myself, I started looking for a quick and effective solution. I must add that my problem is not that serious, but I would still like to be able to solve it. What can I say? I like to have my own peace.

During my search, I came across acoustic paint. Unfortunately for me, this turned out to be one of those hard-to-believe techniques. Some say it works, others call it a myth. And it’s really hard to decide who is trustworthy enough.

Yet, the whole idea really appealed to me, as it seemed like something that I could do myself and have some fun in the process. But, I’m no fool. I didn’t want to waste my time and money before checking whether this will work at all. So, I decided to get to the bottom of it. Read this.

Myth Busting Is Fun

Do you know what the first thing I found was? Investigating myths is a lot of fun, actually. I ended up spending a lot more time than I first intended on this. Sure, I am a little bit of a maniac when something grabs my interest, so I might have gone a little further than it was necessary. But, it was all for a good cause.

I know what it feels to be unable to rest at your own home, so I am aware of how important the question of soundproofing is for you. So, don’t think I’m here to promote the product. On the contrary, I am here to be completely honest about what it can and cannot do.

Anyway, let’s get into it. It’s time to find out whether acoustic pain really works, or if it is just another money wasting method. Settle in and take some time to carefully read what I have found out. It just might help you make your decision.

Is This Your Regular Paint?

One of the common misconceptions about this technique is that it is can be done with regular paint. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why people end up disappointed. As you can see at, acoustic paint is a completely different concept.

“Dark shades can improve the quality of sound” – this is a pure myth. People might get the feeling that their home is quieter after applying dark paint, but that’s really only an illusion. It’s not unusual for human beings to convince their brain in a specific thing and genuinely start believing it. However, these illusions tend to get shattered.

To put it simply, regular paint is not thick enough in order to have any kind of an effect on the sound quality in your home. The next time you hear someone say that this is the right way to do things, feel free to call them a fool. After explaining everything, you might even be the one who shatters their illusions.

What Is It Then?

Soundproof paint, on the other hand, really can help you. Its main ingredient is latex. That material significantly affects its quality and can be very efficient in reducing noise. Thickness is another factor that can have an impact on unpleasant sounds. But, don’t worry; it’s not THAT thick –your room won’t get “smaller”.

While regular paint can be completely liquid, you might find that this sound-deadening product can be a little bit chunky. Because of that, it is bound to leave a texture on your walls, depending on the number of layers you apply. Still, that doesn’t mean that it will look bad. On the contrary, it might help you hide some irregularities and flaws that those walls might have.

Another thing you should know is that this paint doesn’t come in too many colors. But, the tones are really nice and I am sure that you will find the one you like. Personally, I have always preferred lighter walls. Certain bright colors just make them look tacky, while some of them even make me feel a bit uneasy. It’s as if they are stressing me out.

When you spend some time working on your walls, the last thing you want is having to wait for a long, long time before it dries. It’s not only annoying when you need to be careful about every step you make, but certain products even emit some unpleasant and even harmful smells. Soundproof paint dries rather quickly and it is definitely not toxic.

Well, Does It Work?

First of all, if you are expecting a miracle, let me tell you one thing. You won’t find it in this product. However, if you are looking for a quick and easy solution to reduce some mid-frequency noises and make your home a more pleasant place, then you are on the right track.

Given its thickness and the fact that it’s made of latex, this paint can improve the quality of sound. The product is surely dense enough to achieve the desired effect. And, as I have already mentioned, the latex has its own benefits.

In addition to being able to absorb some annoying sounds, the paint can also serve as a thermal insulator. Furthermore, the colors it is offered in are rather nice and warm, so it will look great. If you are looking to paint your home anyway, I suggest you go with this option.

That would be like killing three birds with one stone – style, noise, and temperature. However, it is usually recommended to use this method in combination with some other soundproofing techniques. That way, you will achieve the best possible effect.
