SM City Marikina Junior Fire Fighters Camp 2020

March is known as Fire Prevention Month. It is one of the hottest months of the year and it marks the beginning of summer season in the Philippines. It is also the month that has one of the most alarming fire incidents in the country.

That is why SM City Marikina collaborated with the Bureau of Fire Protection for Junior Fire Fighters Camp 2020 at the mall atrium last March 7 to March 9, 2020. They aim to engage our young mall-goers and the entire community to get educated on fire safety and emergency response.

The event was graced by BFP-NCR Regional Director Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Ang Kwan Tiu and Marikina City Fire Marshal Superintendent Bartolome O. Beliran, led by SM City Marikina’s Mall Manager Francis Brian Cruz.

During the SM City Marikina Junior Firefighters Camp 2020, kids from three years old to 13 years old joined the event and learned a lot from experts of the BFP-Marikina. They also experienced first-hand firefighting skills from their learning stations like Ropemanship and Knot Tying, Fire and Ladder game, Disaster Preparedness, Warning Signages and Safety Practices, CPR, Bandaging and Splinting, Collapsed Structure, House Full of Smoke, Rappelling, Firefighting Technique and Electrical Safety.

Fires destroy property, cause injuries, and take lives. Everyone is responsible for preventing fires in everywhere – may it be at your workplace or at home. Fire safety training helps to protect your home or your business. It ensures everyone knows how to act safely, reducing the risk of injury or loss of life in the event of a blaze. Basic fire-fighting techniques can also help to prevent small fires from becoming big emergencies.

This a nice activity for children. They will not only learn what to during emergencies, they would also learn to be helpful and compassionate to other people. Hope we’ll have more activities like this.
